Augmentin 1.2g is a combination antibiotic containing amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, and clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. The formulation is intended for intravenous administration and is used in the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections, especially where resistance to standard penicillins is suspected or confirmed. Indications Augmentin 1.2g IV is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible organisms: Lower respiratory tract infections (e.g. pneumonia) Skin and soft tissue infections Urinary tract infections Intra-abdominal infections Bone and joint infections Gynecological infections Severe dental infections Dosage and Administration Adults and adolescents ??????12 years: 1.2g IV every 8 hours In more serious infections: 1.2g every 6 hours Administration: Administer by slow IV injection over 3??????4 minutes, or by infusion over 30??????40 minutes Reconstitute with appropriate diluent before use Dose adjustment: Required in renal impairment or elderly patients To be administered only by a healthcare professional. Contraindications Known hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g. penicillins, cephalosporins) History of jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with previous Augmentin use Use in Pregnancy and Lactation Pregnancy: Can be used when clearly necessary. No evidence of teratogenicity in animal studies; use under medical supervision. Lactation: Generally considered safe. Small amounts may pass into breast milk; monitor infant for GI disturbances.
