Cialis® contains tadalafil, a type of medicine known as a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It is used to help adult men with erectile dysfunction (impotence) achieve and maintain a firm erection suitable for sexual activity. Sexual stimulation is required for the medicine to work — it will not cause an erection on its own.

How it works

Tadalafil relaxes smooth muscle and increases blood flow to the penis in response to sexual arousal, improving erectile function.

Typical Use & Dosage

• Normally taken once before anticipated sexual activity — usually at least 30 minutes before sex.
• A 20 mg tablet may be used if a lower dose (10 mg) is not effective, but the frequency should not exceed once per day. 

Do NOT take Cialis if you:

• Are allergic to tadalafil.
• Are using nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin) this can cause dangerously low blood pressure.
• Have severe heart or liver problems or a recent stroke/heart attack.
• Have serious blood pressure issues without medical advice.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Headache
• Flushing (warmth or redness of face)
• Nasal congestion
• Indigestion
• Back or muscle pain
• These are generally temporary. Seek urgent care if you experience chest pain, vision loss, or an erection lasting >4 hours (priapism).

• Inform your prescriber about all medications you take to avoid interactions.
