Senna is a natural laxative made from the leaves and fruit of the senna plant. Senna is used on a short-term basis to treat constipation. It also is used to empty the bowels before surgery and certain medical procedures. Senna is in a class of medications called stimulant laxatives. It works by increasing activity of the intestines to cause a bowel movement.

INDICATIONS
Occasional Constipation: Senna is likely effective in alternative medicine as an aid in treating occasional constipation in adults and children at least 2 years old. It can be used alone or together with other laxatives or stool softeners.
Bowel Preparation: Senna is possibly effective as a bowel preparation before colonoscopy.
DOSAGE
The usual dose of senna tablets is:
Adults aged 18 years and over: Two 7.5mg tablets once a day at bedtime.
Children aged 6 to 17 years: One 7.5mg tablet once a day at bedtime.
A doctor may prescribe higher doses if necessary.
