Abiraterone is a prescription-only medicine used in the management of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer needs a male hormone testosterone to grow. Abiraterone works by blocking and stopping the body from making testosterone which in turn stops the cancer growth. Dosage and usage instructions Abiraterone is a prescription-only medicine and should be taken as indicated by the doctor. The tablets should be swallowed whole on an empty stomach at least an hour before meals or two hours after a meal.Sometimes your doctor might prescribe some tablets to minimize side effects associated with abiraterone. Stick to the treatment regimen and do not take more or less than prescribed. Common side effects Oedema-This is swelling caused by fluid retention. The swelling occurs on the hands and legs. Infection of the urinary tract. Increased blood pressure. Diarrhea. Low blood potassium.
